High-level multi-stakeholder informal meeting to launch the Global Dialogue on Artificial Intelligence Governance.
The high-level informal meeting is convened pursuant to General Assembly resolution 79/325, which established the Global Dialogue on Artificial Intelligence Governance as a follow-up to the Pact for the Future and its Global Digital Compact. The meeting will serve as the formal launch of this Dialogue, bringing together Member States, Observers, United Nations entities, and stakeholders from across sectors to discuss principles of inclusive, transparent and accountable AI governance.
As artificial intelligence (AI) spreads globally driven by investment, optimism, and anxiety, so too do its international implications. AI's data inputs, deployments and spillovers cross borders, calling for international cooperation. Yet international cooperation remains fragmented and siloed, with 118 countries entirely absent from prominent international AI governance initiatives.
The objective of the high-level multi-stakeholder informal meeting will be to launch the Global Dialogue on Artificial Intelligence Governance and provide the opportunity to:
• Support the political momentum generated by the Global Digital Compact and reaffirm the UN's role as a key multilateral convener and an inclusive platform for AI governance
• Provide an update on the most recent developments on AI and the future directions of AI
• Spark cross-sectoral dialogue on key dimensions of inclusive and accountable AI
governance
